Knee Pain

Knee pain is one of the most common complaints among active people, particularly in sports like Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Whether it’s due to ligament strains, meniscus issues, patellofemoral pain, or overuse injuries, we’ll identify the source of the pain and create a personalised treatment plan to restore mobility and strength.

Jumper’s Knee (Patellar Tendinopathy)

This overuse injury causes pain at the front of the knee, typically just below the kneecap. Common in jumping or explosive sports, Jumper’s Knee is also common in adolescents. We use progressive loading, manual therapy, tapping and adjunct treatments like dry needling to help you recover fully.

Back Pain

Low back pain can stem from spinal stiffness, disc injuries, or muscle imbalance. We assess movement patterns and load tolerance to guide treatment. Our goal is not just pain relief but helping you build resilience and prevent recurrence. Heads-up, the type of game you play in BJJ  (top or bottom) can significantly influence back pain.

Neck Pain

Neck issues can be caused by posture, joint dysfunction, or trauma and more. We offer a tailored approach including manual therapy, spinal mobilisation, dry needling, and targeted exercises to relieve pain and improve mobility. Again, often impacted by your game style in higher belts. Lower belts can suffer from lack of muscle joint resiliance, late tapping on cranks or bad decisions on the mat in general.

Headaches

Many headaches have a musculoskeletal origin, often stemming from neck dysfunction or muscle tightness. Through hands-on techniques, posture correction, and targeted strengthening, we can help reduce the frequency and intensity of your headaches.

Shoulder Pain

Shoulder pain is common in grapplers, surfers and those involved with repetitive overhead lifting. We assess shoulder stability, mobility, and rotator cuff function to guide rehabilitation and reduce risk of reinjury.

Rotator Cuff Injuries

The rotator cuff is a group of muscles and tendons that stabilise the shoulder. Strains and tears are common in contact and overhead sports. Akward posting and shoulder landing are common causes for tears in jiu jitsu. We combine manual therapy, strengthening, and mobility work to promote recovery and performance.

Dry Needling

Dry needling involves inserting fine needles into tight or painful muscles to promote release, increase blood flow, and reduce pain. It’s effective and safe for treating trigger points, muscle tightness, and chronic tension in areas like the neck, back, shoulders, glutes, hamstrings and calves.

Spinal Manipulation

This hands-on technique involves a small, controlled thrust to improve spinal mobility and relieve pain. Used for neck and back pain mostly, spinal manipulation can help restore joint function and reduce muscle guarding when applied appropriately. The risks of spinal manipulation can be metigated by appropriate health screening and physical examination.

Joint Mobilisation

Joint mobilisation uses more gentle yet just as effective,  repetitive movements to restore range of motion and reduce stiffness. It’s often used alongside other treatments to improve joint health and movement efficiency.

Myofascial Release

A hands-on technique that targets the fascia — the connective tissue surrounding muscles. It helps reduce tension, restore movement, and improve flexibility. Often used for neck, back, and hip pain.

Muscle Strength Testing

Using objective tools like the AxIT system, we assess muscle strength, asymmetries, and deficits. Your results are compared against normative data for your age group, size and gender. Together with movement analysis, this is information is key for rehabilitation, return-to-sport decisions, and injury prevention planning.

Movement Analysis

We use clinical movement analysis to assess your technique, identify faulty patterns, and create a corrective plan. Ideal for anyone trying to improve their movement quality,  returning from injury or looking to optimise performance.

Sciatica

Sciatica is pain caused by irritation of the sciatic nerve, often felt as shooting pain down the leg. Common causes include lumbar disc issues and muscle compression. We treat sciatica with a combination of hands-on therapy, neural mobility techniques, and tailored strengthening to address the underlying cause and relieve symptoms.

Tennis Elbow (Lateral Epicondylitis)

This condition involves inflammation of the tendons on the outside of the elbow, often caused by gripping or repetitive movements — common in combat sports and gripping-based activities like BJJ or office workers with poor ergonomical setups. We use soft tissue release, tendon loading programs, dry needling and shockwave therapy to reduce pain and restore strength.

Achilles Tendinopathy

Achilles pain is common in running, jumping, and explosive movements. Whether it’s from training or general overuse, our approach involves graded loading, manual therapy, tapping, shockwave therapy and progressive rehabilitation to restore tendon health and prevent recurrence.

Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis causes sharp pain under the heel, especially with the first steps of the day. We treat it using shockwave therapy, soft tissue release, foot and calf strengthening, load management strategies, and movement retraining and strapping to reduce strain on the plantar fascia.

Hip Pain

Hip issues may stem from joint impingements, labral tears, bursitis, or muscular imbalance. We assess hip function, mobility, and core stability to create a rehab program that addresses both pain and performance.

Sports Physiotherapy

We specialise in treating athletes across all levels, with a focus on Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Sports physiotherapy involves injury assessment, recovery planning, performance enhancement, and return-to-sport guidance tailored to your goals and training demands.

Post-Surgical Rehabilitation

Recovering from orthopaedic surgery requires structured, evidence-based rehab. Whether it’s a rotator cuff repair, meniscus surgery, or spinal procedure, we guide you through every stage — from early recovery to full return to sport or daily activity.

Prehabilitation

Prehabilitation aims to improve your strength, mobility, and function before surgery or a major training block. This proactive approach can enhance outcomes, reduce recovery time, and minimise injury risk.

Injury Prevention

Our prevention programs include movement screening, muscle testing, and load management strategies designed to keep you injury-free. We teach you how to train smart, not just hard, with techniques that support long-term athletic development.

Muscle Imbalance

Muscle imbalances can lead to poor biomechanics, compensatory movement, and increased injury risk. We assess and correct imbalances using targeted strengthening and mobility interventions.

Overuse Injuries

From tendonitis to bone stress reactions, overuse injuries build up gradually due to poor recovery or load management. We identify contributing factors and provide strategies to manage training volume while accelerating healing.

Soft Tissue Therapy

Soft tissue therapy targets muscles, tendons, and fascia to reduce tightness, improve circulation, and aid recovery. It complements other physiotherapy techniques and helps relieve muscle soreness, stiffness, and overuse tension.

Functional Strength Training

We prescribe tailored strength programs that address your specific needs — whether it’s grappling endurance, joint stability, or post-rehab performance. Our approach focuses on practical strength you can use on the mat and in daily life.
