Our Story – BlackBelt Rehab

'The Who'

My name is Bruno Rebello, a Brazilian-Australian physiotherapist with over 22 years of clinical experience in musculoskeletal and sports health and founder of BlackBelt Rehab. I’ve dedicated my career to helping people recover, rebuild, and return to the activities they love. I hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Trauma and Orthopaedic Physiotherapy from Brazil and a Postgraduate Certificate in Musculoskeletal and Sports Physiotherapy from the University of Queensland. Yet, BlackBelt Rehab wasn’t born in a clinic or university, it was born on the mats through my own journey.

'The How'

I began training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in 1994 as a teenager in Rio de Janeiro under Master Pitoco at Infight Alfabarra. Whilst still on my adolescent years in Brazil, I trained in a couple of different Jiu Jitsu clubs, before having a knee injury at 17yro. That injury sent me into early retirement from the sport as a blue belt. Many years later I decided on returning to the sport in Australia, Gold Coast, under Vicente Cavalcanti at Southside BJJ, and after Daniel “Jacaré” Almeida, who awarded me my purple belt. Later, I relocated to the Central Coast and spent 2 years training under Tiago “Shark” Ferreira at Gracie Elite, who promoted me to brown belt.

'The What'

I live the life of a passionate BJJ player, the obsession, the grind, the injuries. I’ve had two meniscus surgeries, lumbar and cervical spine injuries, CT-guided injections, and every kind of sprain, strain, and bursitis you can think of. And like many others, I’ve felt the frustration of being told to stay away from pursuing my passion or getting average advice from people who had no idea what it meant to miss time on the mats, or any idea about what jiu jistu entailed. How could they offer me insight into training adaptations, revovery and rebuilding strategies when they had no clue about the sports itself, they simply couldn't. Luckily I could always counsel myself in that regard.

'The Why'

That’s why BlackBelt Rehab exists: to give BJJ practitioners, regarless of level, the kind of care they actually need, targeted, evidence-based, and sport-specific physiotherapy from someone who truly understands what they’re going through.
